Doesn't pass power for charging

Form factor is nice.
I bought this thinking that I could plug my old car charger into my new Type C phone and get a charge but it doesn't work that way, not sure why. even if I use a micro usb cable off my laptop with this adapter the phone won't charge. But it will charge of the laptop if I use a cheap dollar store type A to type C cable. Just to let people know.
Just didn't work for my intended use even though I told the salesman what I wanted it for.
